300 km from Paris, 10 km from Saumur and 7 km from Fontevraud, the picturesque village of Turquant is in the heart of a beautiful region waiting to be discovered!
Be seduced by the gentleness of life in Anjou ...
In the heart of the Saumurois, which houses the world's largest troglodyte heritage, Turquant's craft village is distinguished by its remarkably preserved hillside troglodyte habitations. Prehistoric natural caves, dug out from the 12th century to extract Tuffeau stones, inhabited in troglodyte style until the 19th century and cellars used to mature wine, to produce mushrooms and to dry fruit in the ovens, these troglodyte caves served as stopping off points" (Jeanne d'Arc ...) and refuges during all the wars. On the Turquant path of discovery, you will follow kilometers of galleries, cross vines pass by-walls, mills, artisans crafts, taste tapped-out apples and visit mushroom producers...
In the vicinity, there are plenty of remarkable sites. Alongside the sites Troglodytes and mushroom caves proudly stand many castles, those of Montsoreau, Brezé, Chinon, Ussé, les Reaux, Brissac, Montreuil Bellay or Azay-le-Rideau without forgetting the Abbey of Fontevraud, the largest in Europe, where lay the lords of the kings of England. The well-presented nature offers the spectacle of a generous territory, worthily represented by the famous vineyards of Saumurois. Their cellars open their doors to you and invite you to taste their precious grape varieties: Saumur Champigny, Chinon, Bourgueil, Saint-Nicolas, Côtes du Layon, Brézé ...
A nature that also offers many opportunities for amateur activities: the Loire by cycle of course but also beautiful hikes, canoeing, tennis, golf in St Hilaire ...
